Words That Mean Agreements

Consent comes from the Latin assent, a combination of the prefix ad – (meaning “to” or “towards”) and a “to feel” or “to think”). The meanings of Latin roots imply having a feeling or a thought about something, and this proposal is resigned to the agreement of English, which means that one is free to accept or approve something that has been proposed or presented after careful reflection. Assent is used as a substantiated verb or with the meaning of “accept or approve.” In law, consent is specifically used for the voluntary agreement or tolerance of an elderly person who is not subject to coercion or coercion and who generally has knowledge or understanding. Age is the age of consent, the age at which a person is legally competent to obtain consent. Eighteen is the standard age of consent in the United States. I do not recall anything being said about that in our agreement. The compromise suggests abandoning something we want to reach a mutual agreement (“The union and the employers have agreed to compromise”). Another meaning is to “expose yourself to suspicion, discredit or nonsense,” as in “The actor`s career has been compromised by his politically incorrect tweets” or “The editor would not compromise his principles.” And as mentioned above, it can mean risking someone or something, endangering or having serious consequences. Confidential information, national security or the immune system could be described as a “compromise.” “I thought we`d already agreed,” Simpson says with a little warmth.

The word also has a verbal meaning: “to promise or reach a formal agreement.” You will find an example in Holmes` quote at the convention (above). Bargain, as a nod and verb, began to be exchanged in English in the 14th century. We know that it developed from the Anglo-French Bargaigner, which means “bargaining,” but its history later is unclear. The first known use refers to a company that refers to a discussion between two parties on the terms of the agreement. The formal agreement, often the one that people made in secret during the 17th century, reached a written agreement between the warring nations, especially for the treatment and exchange of prisoners. This use is illustrated by Bishop Gilbert Burnet in his story of his own time (1734): “Thanks to a cartel that had been established between the two armies, all prisoners had to be redeemed at a certain price and within a limited time.” Accord appears in ancient English with the meaning of “reconciling” or “concording,” borrowed from his Anglo-French etymon, acorder, a word akin to Latin concord, which means “consent.” This original sense of concordance is transitory, and in modern English it still occurs, but rarely. His transitory sense of “giving or giving accordingly, whether due or deserved” – as in “The Teacher`s Students Pay Tribute to Them” – is more often encountered. This meaning was forgotten at the end of the 17th century; another 14th century negotiating feeling, which refers to an agreement (concluded by discussion) that says what each party gives or receives to the other party or the other party survives.

It was not until the 16th century that the good deal was used as a word for what is acquired by such an agreement through negotiation, haggling, ringing… through negotiations. So your hope of having a new president — small tests that will be done successfully. And then they`re comfortable inside, they grow up, and then they move on to major crises. But crises do not indicate the president`s needs. – Doris Kearns Goodwin, quoted on NBC, Dec. 24, 2000 The nominating agreement has the meaning of “agreement” or “compliance.” It often occurs in legal, commercial or political contexts where it is synonymous with contract and similar terms for a formal agreement.
